Morelli House Receives Historic Designation

Morelli House Placed on the Las Vegas Historic Property RegisterMid-Century Home of Fabled Sands Hotel Musical Director Recognized for its Architectural Importance

The Morelli House, built in 1959, is now officially part of the city’s historic property register. The Las Vegas City Council approved this designation by ordinance on Wednesday, recognizing the building for its importance to the architectural and cultural history of the city. The city’s historic register designation protects the property’s significance and encourages sensitive improvements and renovations.
The former home of famed Sands Hotel orchestra conductor and musical director Antonio Morelli was moved to its current location at Ninth Street and Bridger Avenue in 2001, saving it from demolition for the construction of the Wynn Las Vegas. It now serves as offices, a history museum and gallery operated by the Junior League of Las Vegas. Although it has been removed from its original setting, it retains a high degree of integrity of design, materials, workmanship and even association.
