A map of all the Very Vintage Vegas Neighborhoods

I had lunch yesterday with Phil Hagen, the editor of VURB magazine. We're collaborating on the creation of a map for an upcoming issue, and for our VeryVintageVegas website.

We're going to color and number code ALL the neighborhoods of Vintage Vegas. Most everyone knows where McNeil or Huntridge is. But I'm about the only one who knows all the names of all the little pockets of small subdivisions that are spread amongst the better known ones.

A good example is the John S. Park Historic neighborhood. The boundaries are Oakey on the south, Charleston on the north, Las Vegas Blvd. on the west and 9th Street on the east. But it's REALLY made up of several smaller subdivisions such as Desert Park, Vega Verde, Paradise Grove, Park Manor, Park Place, Belair, and Radlick Park.

I'm trying to get those names resurrected to create pockets of identity that are smaller than just calling the area downtown or mid town. Another thing that's lost to most of us is that if you're not in the city, then you actually are in a TOWNSHIP of the county. Paradise Palms South of Desert INN is actually in Paradise Township. Paradise Palms North, is in Winchester Township, as are The Las Vegas Country club, much of Fran Park, and Las Verdes.

If any of you techies out there are aware of a simple map building program (preferably share ware, or cheap if we have to buy it) please give us a hint.

Did I ever show you my...

Vurb ad?

Based off the original "For Sale" yard sign Graphic Design work of Ali Farid (an amazing asset in our start-up marketing materials as we re-branded Jack's 17 years of experience as an award winning Realtor). Sorry to say, that if you're looking for a great graphics man, Ali is now probably too busy to assist. However, he gave us plenty of great material to build on, and as we (hopefully) are super close to finding a new hire that will allow me to really crank down on more marketing & design projects I look forward to having lots more fun on Photoshop.

This particular ad (published in the Summer issue of Vurb) is a bit of puzzle. You can follow the neighborhoods' geographic location around the Vintage Vegas area in a left = West, up = North fashion while also cross-referencing the current state of market value to our projected estimation of near-future value to find the investment or home that fits your financial and "proximity to" needs via the color-coded neighborhood names. As always, you can and should click the picture to open it full size in a new window or tab. If you want further info, or pictures of a typical residence in any of these neighborhoods, of course Jack would be happy to oblige: 702-378-7055 or Jack@UncleJack.com.

If you're not living in Las Vegas yet, (we love hearing from our soon to be neighbors still out of state [Dan DeLauro's e-mail from New Jersey rocked my morning])you can still request mailing of the Vurb mag. Click this link to email Subscriptions@vurbmagazine.com and include your name address, etc. to get the Urban Vegas ball rolling.

As Jack posted earlier, Vurb will soon be rolling out new issues 6 times a year instead of four. This means two things. 1. My continued increasing love affair with each new issue will only escalate. And 2. We're going to get to have even more fun creating crazy ads!

First Friday at Vurb Space

Our favorite magazine VURB always does something fun and fresh on First Friday's. This time, we got to meet 3 hot young artists with a real twisted communal funny bone. Lot's of color and lots of smiles eminated from their whimsical work. T-shirts, buttons and badges, wall hangings, sign and cartoons. They seem to have covered the gamut, and they sold a lot of pieces.

And it turns out that "Ripper Jordan" is the name of their little collective endeavor. Mystery solved. James Hough, David Ryan, and Sean Slattery are the creative minds behind Ripper Jordan, and I'm now lucky enough to own a small piece of their work.

Also, a little bird told me that VURB is going to go to 6 issues a year instead of 4, so there's that much more of the new Urban Scene that will get discovered and disected. Congratulation are in order to Phil, Amy and David. Their little upstart magazine has been a big hit.

I was showing homes in Paradise Palms the other day to a broadway actor who's here in the "Producers" show. About 1/2 the homes in PP that I showed had the VURB magazine, and the recent cover article about PP prominently displayed. One had even photocopied the article for prospective buyers to take away with them.
