Las Vegas Sun Tells All About Fremont Street East--And It's All Good!

Our favorite Sun Reporter (Joe Schoenmann) and past client wrote a great piece yesterday on the Fremont East Entertainment District Read the whole article HERE.

If you've been reading us for a while, you know that we are huge supporters of Fremont East. We go down every Thursday for the LoPro Mixer. Often we stay around for what ever band is at the Beauty Bar, have dinner at the El Cortez or venture across LVB to Fremont Experience.

We're always running into locals, meeting new friends and having a great time.

Joe nails it pretty good, but I think it will look like 6th Street in Austin Tx real soon. It's been the iconic live music street in America for many years, but I think Fremont can top it real soon.

If you haven't been there yet, next Wednesday the 26 will be a special event that Steve and I are inviting you to attend.a special event that Steve and I are inviting you to attend. Great Cause, Great Music, Gold FUN! We'll remind you again next week.

Oh.. & we did have a good time on Fremont St.

Breakin' at United Fine Arts Gallery w/ Dj SV4 +AArnio - Ghostly

Review of Fremont / United Block Party

Please Click the Pictures to View Them Full-Size in a New Window!

Well, our friends Pam K. & Lolita B. came out..
I hope more of you did too, though with the six venues involved and the crowds on the street,

The crazy great times on the dance floor,

and all the great art in the United Fine Arts Gallery,

I didn't see a whole lot of VVV regular readers out. Although everyone who did come out had the time of their life. I felt so lucky to enjoy the night and catch up with my friends Sam Valenti of Ghostly International, and Jakub Alexander of Moodgadget Records, who were both in town for the United Trade Show and also performing at the United Fine Arts Gallery.

I am absolutely in love with the life & energy being pumped back into the Fremont East. Though most of the Pictures above are from the United Fine Arts Gallery, the other venues involved included both United Botiques (men's & women's), Beauty Bar, and of course.. Downtown Cocktail Room. We navigated our way through all the venues and I must say it was great to see everyone who did make it out, including The Vurb posse, local artist Micheal Wardle, and many other friends, new, old, local & tourist.

We lit up the night on Fremont East

The BEST part of the night was the fact that it was predominately a LOCALS event. Everyone we spoke to from Vintage Vegas was astounded at how many other locals they ran into. Several thousand of us came out to revel and witness the lighting of the 2 arches and the 4 new neon signs down the middle of Fremont Street.

Streamline Condos, which over looks the Fremont East hosted a VIP cocktail party. The mayor and the city council made their speeches, and then there was NEON to light up the night.

Now, if lots of those people in attendance will come back another night, we'll see the newest attraction in Las Vegas really take off.

Streamline Condos, which over looks the Fremont East hosted a VIP cocktail party. The mayor and the city council made their speeches, and then there was NEON to light up the night.

If you missed the party, come out to Fremont East any time and make your own party. There's lots of great venues, great music, terrific decor, and of course the NEON!

Thursday night music scene

As usual, we started Thursday night at the Downtown Cocktail Room. We were fortunate to have our regular reader, and new friend, and lifelong downtown resident Mary Alderman join us. Highlight story from her was when she dated the then 17 year old Wayne Newton while in High School. (He was already performing on the strip with his brother)

The Beauty Bar was our next stop, and I'm pleased to say that I got carded to get in for the first time in many years. Unfortunately, it was because EVERYONE had to show ID. One of the better known event promoters got turned away and had to go home to get his ID.

The Fremont Street East MUSIC SCENE is really starting to grow. I was reminded of 6th St. in Austin TX, which has the most robust, diverse and energetic music scene anywhere in the country. FSE has the potential to rival it, and even to surpass it.

And, a band I've followed in the past, "Nurse Ratchet" was playing and sounded better than ever.

After, I discovered some new plaques embedded in the sidewalk that I either missed last week, or just got installed this week. Next week, I'll walk the whole district and see if there are others.

Come on out any Thursday or any of the other nights of the week. There's always a big crowd from 10 to 2am at the DCR, and at the many other venues. The tourists haven't caught on yet, and you're sure to meet up with some "urban core locals".

As we do most every Thursday after work.....

We went downtown to the "Downtown Cocktail Room" for their ever growing LO-PRO mixer. It's a happy hour for Local Professionals, and everyone is invited. Low Price drinks, a free mini-buffet of snacking foods, good company, lots of "urban core" neighbors.

And then, we took a walk into the new "FREMONT EAST entertainment district, which PACO started telling us about a few weeks ago. They're just finishing the new paving and wider sidwalks, and installation of a few new pieces of the NEON MUSEUM. (maybe we can get Paco to tell us the story and some more about the Neon Museum, since he was the first Curator, and one of the movers that actually made it a reality).

We're reminded of 6th Street in AUSTIN TEXAS, which is one of the great music districts of the world.

We grabbed a picture inside the Griffin, which opened a few months ago. Stunning brickwork and conversation fire pits. Check it out sometime.

Fremont East Taking Shape…

The Fremont East project taking place in the Downtown Entertainment District is finally beginning to take shape. Fremont Street from Las Vegas Boulevard to Eighth Street is being gentrified to compliment the Fremont Street Experience and to bring visitors and locals alike back to Downtown. This project is spearheaded by the City of Las Vegas Office of Business Development.

As it stands Fremont Street has been narrowed and the sidewalks widened making the area more pedestrian friendly. Five fabulous neon signs are being installed along the new landscaped meridian. As of date two of the signs have been installed. The designs of the signs are all Googie inspired and they have an uncanny resemblance to signs from the Neon Boneyard.

This project will only help Downtown and bring attention to the fabulous venues that are already there and being planned.
