That was the gist of the meeting last night in the old Gorman High School Gymnasium. The school is now going to be called "Eldorado Preporatory Acadamy" Also, we all learned that gymnasiums are acoustically not a good place to hold meetings.
We learned that it will 9th graders only. The students won't be able to leave the campus for lunch. 9th graders don't drive. CCSD wants to be a good neighbor. Everyone at the meeting wants a walkway bridge over Maryland to eliminate the school zone and crossing light.
There's been a change from what we reported earlier, and a new gate has been cut into 11th street on the west side of the student parking lot. Until it's proven to be a good idea, and will work, they won't cut the curb, or do anything permanent.
Now the buses will enter the lot on 11th and exit onto Maryland Parkway. I think this plan will work, though the 5 houses on 11th that face into the lot will not be too happy about it. Potential bottle necks might be created for the left turn lanes from southbound Maryland onto St. Louis and Sahara, but we'll have to wait to see what happens.
CCSD and the City traffic engineers will look at it after a few days of school, to see what's working and what isn't.
In the meanwhile, there will be 2 thirty minute windows where the buses will be coming an going on school days. 17 of the 20 buses per day will arrive, empty out and depart again from 7:15-7:45 am and the reverse process from 1:45 to 2:15 pm.
There's also 3 buses arriving at 9 to unload, and the same three loading up and departing at 4pm.
I'll be there at 7:15 on the first day of school so I can report to you. If you have any suggestions you can leave them in the comments, and I'll pass them on.

I felt assured at the meeting that CCSD is trying to do the best for the neighborhood. I guess we'll see Monday morning how things go!
