McNeil Is One Of Our Favorite Neighborhoods in Las Vegas's Vintage Vegas

I got a real shock yesterday when driving thru McNeil. One of the homes we've been watching had a fire. We were watching it because it was being rebuilt, though the new front didn't match the home) and updated.

The contractor we talked to didn't know how the fire started, but he's tearing the house down completely so now there'll be a new house on the lot. The property is on Colanthe at Strong, and well worth doing a regular drive by to see how it progresses. We sure hope they're not about to go build a new suburban "Mediterranean".

We'd been talking to the owner about how a square box, crown molding and an arch over the door didn't fit or look right on a classic "Cinderella" Ranch. He had never thought about it before. He was trying to make the house more 2007 suburbia. The term for that is "re-MUDDLE". Looks like now he'll get a do over. These 2 pictures are the front of the house when he bought it last year (from the MLS) and after the fire showing the "box".

Another restoration under way in Paradise Palms

The dumpster's arrived and the work is about to begin at one of the great Paradise Palms MID-MODS at 1676 Pawnee Circle. It just closed for 335,000. We're hoping they keep the original kitchens, baths and fireplace. I grabbed the living room shot from the mls. It's my favorite of the Paradise Palms floor plans.

Also, across the street, at the corner of Pawnee Dr. and Pawnee Circle, the chain link fence has come down that surrounded the lot where the fire destroyed the home last year. Hopefully someone's about to build something that will NOT be out of character for the neighborhood. I'm going to do some research.
The buyer on our Paradise Palms listing on Algonquin is a performer in one of the CIRQ shows. I'm told that a lot of the CIRQ folks have their eye on Paradise Palms. No doubt in my mind.

Everywhere I look

Today, the home we've been watching at 15th and Oakey started to get some new block wall to create a front courtyard. (It's across Oakey from our new listing)
Wes Isbutt from the Arts Factory is putting this home back together, slowly but surely.
He's also working on one at the corner of 15th and Bracken. It's getting new walls also, and the house has been scraped down and paint prep work is well under way.

One way to add a splash of color

One of our favorite corner homes at 8th and Park Paseo has a whole new collection of flower pots in BLUE to adorn the lawn and porch. We used pictures of this home when we posted previously about weeping brick or weeping morter

Everywhere I look.... another dumpster shows up #73+-

Commanche Drive in Paradise Palms. We'll keep an eye on it to see what develops.

Everywhere I look.... another dumpster shows up

new driveways, sidewalks and who knows what else on 14th Street south of Oakey.
There's an old real estate "cliche" about counting the cranes in a city to determine the health of the economy for that city.
I apply the same rule to DUMPSTERS in VeryVintageVegas.
I think there's as many dumpsters in any given week as there are pigeons.

JACK IT UP!!

Nope, we're not talking about Jack LeVine's effect on the real property values in the Vintage Vegas Urban Core. It's a dumpster story (no it's not a feature on Summerlin rentals turned foreclosure either).

It's actually about renovating your great mid-century home and keeping the cool lines! While wandering Royal Crest Rancheros waiting to deliver a washer & dryer to one of our friends this morning (yes, we're that helpful of a real estate team), I found this home on Travois Cir. It looks like someone's making some changes to their Ranch Home and keeping the updates in line with the original architecture. If you've got to squeeze a boat or RV in there, let's hope you do it like this!

Chris G's new driveway

In the catagory of "everywhere I look" our favorite County Commissioner Chris G. is getting all new driveways and walks on her home on 15th.

Uncle Jack represented Chris and her husband Gary when they purchased the home last summer. A true Vintage Vegas classic ranch with an incredible back yard. The worst part was the outdoor cement in the driveways and garage. But it looks like that problem will be fixed this week.

couldn't help myself

Went to Mark and Ted's on St. Jude Circle to pick up the popcorn machine for the party. I found a whole new color scheme on their house. Antique Red and teal trim. Looking Great.
They tell me the lawn's being replaced with xeroscape for their next project.

Everywhere we look.... Part 207+-

We'll be watching closing to see what the new color scheme will be on this 8th Place Custom. Mike and Angela are keeping it a secret. Kudos on the new support column for the carport. It used to be just a boring 4x4. Mike designed the new post to give some extra flare. (pun intended) The inside decor and Angela's art was featured in last months HD (Home and Design) magazine in case you missed it.

New brick work and xeroscape on 8th street is looking real nice on this Vega Verde neighborhood home on 8th St.
Tips on new projects in Vintage Vegas are always welcome. Post them in the comments or email them to jack@unclejack.com.
